Our subject is representations of the female figure in the visual arts from the 16th through the 20th centuries. Feminist theories about the production and reception of works of art will be studied, as they relate to issues of authorship, subject matter, social environment, and techniques of representation. The seminar emphasizes first-hand study of original works of art in the University of Michigan Museum of Art and other university and regional collections.
Estimated cost of materials: $50 or more, but less than $100
