Meets with HISTART 497.004

In anticipation of a significant exhibition on Korean art opening at a major New York institution, this seminar will explore new areas of research this exhibition and other recent curatorial interventions have raised with regard to postwar Korean art. A mandatory field trip to New York will comprise part of this course. Close study of objects will be stressed in hopes of cultivating a deeper rhetorical framework for thinking about Korean art outside received theoretical frameworks. Evaluation will consist of class participation and two papers. Prior coursework in art history and/or Korean culture is recommended
