The Department of the History of Art and the Office of International Programs are proud to offer Michigan undergraduates the opportunity to study in Paris, France, during the Winter semester of 2009. This program is designed especially for students with interests in art history and French language and culture, as well as students for whom a semester in Paris may complement their courses of study in other disciplines. For undergraduates looking to enhance their understanding of French culture, there is no substitute for deep immersion, over the course of an entire semester, in the art, language, and history of Paris—one of the world's great capital cities.
History of Art classes are taught in English by University of Michigan faculty members; these courses are available exclusively to Michigan students enrolled in the program. Intensive French language courses are taught by professors at the Institut Catholique, widely considered to be the premier French-as-a-foreign-language faculty in Paris. The program is ideally suited for students who plan to concentrate or minor in either History of Art or French, or who intend to complete a double concentration in the two disciplines. It also provides students from other concentrations the opportunity to expand their interests, and perhaps to add a minor in History of Art or French to their undergraduate studies at Michigan. Because the program follows the French academic calendar, courses in both art history and French language are taught from late February to late June. Students will receive a total of sixteen credit hours (ten in History of Art and six in French) for the semester.
